FAIRHAVEN RABBIT RIDE VIDEO

Yesterday, whilst all the Bellingham world was Ski and/or Seaing, myself and a handful of others (six?) did the Rabbit Ride. Great fun, made a couple new friends--Brian Bressler of PainCave Cycling fame and someone named Scott, who's last name I didn't get--got in a great workout and, always important, set a couple Strava PRs on the Colony Road loop. Gotta love that! Please enjoy the above vid of said ride.

Shout-out of congrats to Titanium Cowboys John Clark (mountain bike) and Titanium Cancellara (road bike) whose Ski to Sea team, Aven Construction, won the the Whatcom County Mixed division at Ski to Sea. Check out the mega-trophy!

SKI TO SEA MOUNTAIN BIKE COURSE VIDEOS

(Just added a second video at the bottom.)

Here's a quick vid shot today of the new Ski to Sea mountain bike course designed by Charlie Heggem and others whose names escape me right now. Pretty fun, pretty darn challenging. Lots of lumpy, bumpy fields, but thankfully many wide stretches on which to pass and be passed, and, if my calculations are correct, a fair amount of mud in certain spots. One fun bit not captured on the vid (my disk had filled up) includes the bumpity-bumpity railroad tracks down by Squalicum Parkway with about a mile to go to the finish. I expect the phrase "Are these really necessary at this point?" will play about more that one rider's mind.

NOTE: Seattle Times columnist Ron Judd and his lovely wife, EmJay, make an appearance about halfway through the video.

NOTE II (About three hours later): I just pulled three thorns from my front tire. Also, my bike reeks with a certain sewage-terpentiney funk, I believe picked up from riding through the giant goo puddle at the end of the RR track section.

SKI TO SEA WEEKEND

Bellingham's Olympics--the Ski to Sea race--takes place tomorrow. Something that's pretty cool is that our John Clark is featured on one of the posters that's plastered all around our fair county. (That's him above.) I shant be doing the race; I'm headed to Orcas Island where I'll try my hand (and legs) at the Mount Constitution Hill Climb. Afterwards, Bake will skate at the cool skatepark over there and we'll all dine at Bilbo's Festivo. Should be a great day!
