SEATTLE TIMES HIKING STORY

Check out my story in today's Seattle Times about getting high ... in the mountains. It's here (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/outdoors/2009748164_nwwhighhikes27.html) and features five hikes in the Cascades that top out at 7,500 or higher. Shot above is Sahale Arm above Cascade Pass, which I hiked about three weeks ago.

  1. Nicely written and undoubtedly a great list of hikes. I just wanted to point out that there might be lots of disappointed hikers who drive all the way to Cascade River Road and find it closed.

  2. Thanks for the note. And the story does make note of the road closure so hopefully readers will read it carefully.

Excellent article- your writing style and subject material made me take a closer look (and led me to your blog). Thanks for the great piece- I'll be checking out the books, next.

Absolutely! I hail from AK, but spend as much time as possible in the Pacific Northwet :) The hiking and climbing are simply unparalleled for both the views and the accessiblity.

  6. I'm not proud to say that there are a few hikes on your list I didn't know about. The Enchantments sounds wonderful - "a plateau of crystalline lakes..."

The flourishes you use to describe some of these places are pretty compelling. Too bad most places above 2,000 feet are buried in snow right now.
